BURDENS

OUR STORY

Fishing has always been part of the story behind Burdens. Time spent on the water revealed an opportunity in one of sportfishing's most familiar tools: the sinker.

Often treated as purely functional, we saw the possibility for something more considered. Burdens was created to bring together purposeful design, manufacturing, and refined presentation in a product made to perform on the water.

From its material and form to its finishing and presentation, every detail is approached with intention—transforming a familiar piece of tackle into something made to be used, appreciated, and remembered.

MATERIAL

Brass With Purpose

Brass was selected for its substantial feel, precision machinability, refined finish, and lasting character. It defines how Ventura performs, how it feels in the hand, and how it endures over time.

MATERIAL WITH INTENT

Performance Begins With the Material

Material determines more than appearance. It influences weight, machining accuracy, surface quality, balance, and the experience of the finished object.

01

Substantial Weight

The unmistakable weight of Ventura begins with solid brass. Naturally dense and substantial, the material provides the presence required for offshore fishing, deeper presentations, and conditions where control beneath the surface is essential.

That density is carefully translated into each Ventura profile. Weight is concentrated within a streamlined form designed to descend with purpose, helping the sinker move efficiently through the water while maintaining the stability expected from serious sportfishing equipment.

Its substance is immediately apparent in the hand. Ventura feels deliberate, balanced, and enduring before it ever reaches the water—a physical expression of the performance held within.

This is weight not simply added, but refined through material, proportion, and precision.

02

Precision Machining

Every Ventura sinker begins as solid brass and is shaped through precision machining in the United States. Rather than relying on the irregularities of conventional high-volume casting, the machining process allows the form to be developed with greater control over its dimensions, proportions, surfaces, and final character.

Each curve is intentional. Every transition is considered. The geometry is produced to create a consistent profile that feels balanced in the hand and composed from every angle.

Machining also reveals the natural beauty of the material. As the solid brass is gradually transformed, its warmth, depth, and distinctive metallic character become part of the finished design. The result is a functional piece of sportfishing equipment with the clarity and refinement of a carefully made object.

Precision is not a decorative detail added at the end. It is the discipline behind every Ventura sinker.

03

An Alternative to Lead

Ventura is manufactured without lead, offering anglers an alternative to the material traditionally used in fishing weights.

Solid brass provides the density, strength, and durability required for demanding sportfishing applications while bringing greater permanence and material value to an object often treated as disposable. Its corrosion resistance supports continued use in marine environments, while its substantial construction is designed to remain dependable across seasons.

Brass is also recyclable and can be recovered, processed, and returned to productive use. This lasting value encourages a more thoughtful relationship with the product—one centered on ownership, care, and longevity rather than replacement.

No material is without impact, but better decisions begin with considering how a product is made, how long it can serve its purpose, and what value remains at the end of its useful life. Ventura reflects that more deliberate approach.

THE FOUNDATION

Chosen Before the First Cut

Before a contour is machined or a mark is engraved, the character of Ventura begins with the brass itself.

THE BURDENS ATELIER

THE MAKING OF Ventura

From raw 360 brass to the final engraved piece, every Burdens sinker moves through a deliberate sequence of machining, refinement, and inspection. Each stage is guided by precision, with no detail treated as secondary.

THE FORM STUDY

Weight Gives It Purpose.
Form Defines How It Moves.

Ventura is shaped by more than weight alone. Length, width, taper, surface area, and the distribution of mass all influence how each profile meets the water.

Each Ventura profile brings substantial brass into a deliberate geometry developed around efficient descent, stability, control, and the changing conditions encountered during offshore sportfishing.

TECHNICAL STUDY

Measured With Intention.

Technical proportions reveal what the finished surface does not immediately show. Each Ventura profile is defined by the relationship between its length, width, thickness, and final brass weight.

HYDRODYNAMIC FORM

Every Contour Meets the Water.

As Ventura descends, surrounding water must move around every part of its exterior. The leading geometry begins that separation, the central body carries the majority of the brass mass, and the taper continues the transition around the profile.

The objective is not shape for appearance alone. Material, weight, and geometry work together to create a profile intended to descend efficiently while remaining controlled beneath the surface.

01
STREAMLINED PROFILE

Gradual exterior transitions reduce unnecessary frontal area as the sinker enters and moves through the water.

02
CONTROLLED TAPER

The taper provides a smoother transition around the body rather than ending in an abrupt broad surface.

03
CONCENTRATED MASS

Dense brass places substantial weight within a relatively compact physical profile.

04
CONTROLLED DESCENT

Weight and form work together to support a deliberate downward path as the rig moves toward fishing depth.

PERFORMANCE IN CONTEXT

From Surface to Depth.

Offshore conditions are rarely constant. Depth, current, line angle, drift, and presentation can all influence the amount of weight required below the surface.

The Ventura collection offers multiple weight classes within the same design philosophy so anglers can select the profile appropriate for the conditions.

01

Reaching Depth

A streamlined profile is intended to move through the water efficiently so the selected weight can begin working toward the target fishing depth without carrying unnecessary frontal area.

02

Maintaining Control

Appropriate weight can help manage line angle and keep the presentation closer to the intended zone as current, vessel movement, and drift change offshore.

03

Matching Conditions

The 10, 12, and 16 oz Ventura profiles allow anglers to increase mass as depth and current demand more substantial weight.
